In a continued effort to alleviate hunger and support the vulnerable, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched the distribution of 40,000 10kg bags of rice across all 20 local government areas of Ogun State, as part of its National Food Intervention Programme.
Priority is being given to People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), widows, artisans, and other vulnerable groups in the state.
The distribution flag-off ceremony, held at the Oba’s Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was graced by key stakeholders from both the government and civil society. Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, applauded the Foundation for its ongoing partnership with the state, especially in health, empowerment, and security.
Governor Abiodun praised ADF’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it provided critical infrastructure and patrol vans for security. He emphasized that such gestures from corporate organizations must be encouraged, stating:
“Not everything is about coming, making money, and leaving. The Dangote Foundation has shown consistent care for the people.”
He also warned against the sale of the donated rice, stressing that anyone caught doing so would face penalties:
“The rice is meant to be given out free of charge. It is for empowerment, not for sale.”
Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Efuape, lauded the Foundation’s various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts that have consistently benefitted the state.
In his goodwill message, Mr. Victor Edero, Head of Operations at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, explained that the initiative is a direct response to the current economic challenges. He noted that ADF is committed to the pillars of health, empowerment, and nutrition, and is collaborating with all levels of government to support food security.
“This initiative is to ensure that the most vulnerable in society still have access to staple food during these tough times,” he said.
The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Mrs. Yemisi Abbas, appreciated the gesture and called on the Foundation to consider launching a loan scheme to empower market women and help eradicate poverty.
Representatives from the Trade Council, Youth Council, and PWD community expressed gratitude for the donation, recognizing it as a strong example of public-private collaboration to address the needs of the people.

Trade Associations
These representatives will further distribute the items among their members.
