As part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations, the London Business School (LBS) Alumni Community Nigeria hosted an exclusive brunch and fireside chat in Lagos, spotlighting one of Nigeria’s most impactful business leaders – Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Group Managing Director and CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc.
Themed around the global Women’s Month call to “Accelerate Action,” the event convened a powerful network of C-suite executives across finance, FMCG, and investment sectors. But it was Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe’s presence and insights that truly set the tone for an inspiring afternoon.
A Trailblazer in Banking
As the first female CEO in Fidelity Bank’s history, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe has redefined leadership in Nigeria’s male-dominated banking sector. Her personal journey-marked by resilience, strategic vision, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence-captivated attendees.
“I have personally never acknowledged the gender glass ceiling in my career-or in anything in my life,” she declared. “When something looks like a barrier, I see it as motivation to go even harder.”
Lessons in Leadership & Life
She spoke candidly about the importance of self-discipline, embracing failure, and balancing ambition with personal well-being.
“Don’t fear failure. It’s part of the process,” she said. “Every misstep has taught me something that helped me get better.”
On work-life balance, she emphasized, “Learning to balance family and career is not just important for business success, it’s important for success in life.”
Driving Change Through Purpose
Under her leadership, Fidelity Bank has experienced remarkable transformation-championing innovation, inclusivity, and financial progress. She also highlighted gender equity in banking, noting that 11 of Nigeria’s 26 commercial bank CEOs are women-a milestone that must be built upon.
“That’s progress, but we must not stop there. We want to see that number go to 14, 15, and beyond.”

Closing the event, Akintayo Sanwo-Olu, President of the LBS Alumni Community Nigeria, reinforced the community’s mission:
