At a high-level symposium on aviation security held in Abuja on April 29, 2025, Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace Airline Limited, delivered a powerful message to Nigeria’s aviation stakeholders, urging immediate and united action to strengthen the sector’s security framework.
Speaking at the “Symposium on the Fundamentality of Aviation Security in Achieving the Safe-Skies Goal,” organized by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Onyema called the event’s theme both timely and urgent. He praised the NCAA for its leadership and ongoing efforts in aviation oversight, while emphasizing that security must remain the industry’s top priority.
“Aviation security is not just about protocols; it is the lifeblood of the industry,” Onyema said, addressing an audience of regulators, operators, security professionals, and industry experts. He warned that emerging global threats—from cyberattacks to insider risks—demand a continuously evolving security architecture.
Central to his speech was a call for greater synergy among stakeholders. “No single agency or operator can safeguard the skies alone,” he stressed, advocating for collaboration between airlines, airport authorities, security agencies, regulators, and private sector players.
Dr. Onyema cited Air Peace’s own approach as an example, highlighting the airline’s investments in advanced security technologies, staff training, and institutional partnerships. However, he cautioned that technology alone is not enough. “Security is also about mindset,” he noted, urging a culture of vigilance, information-sharing, and strict compliance across the sector.
He challenged participants to ensure the symposium results in concrete outcomes, not just dialogue. “Let this not be another talkshop,” he said. “Let us commit to sharing best practices, asking tough questions, and pursuing real solutions.”
Dr. Onyema concluded by reaffirming Air Peace’s dedication to security and excellence in service. “Our passengers deserve nothing less,” he said. “And our future as an aviation nation depends on it.”
