The Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) has announced that its long-running evening news programme, EBS Comprehensive News, will air its final edition on May 4, 2025.
The station will debut a new flagship news show, EBS Tonight, the following day, ushering in what it describes as “a bold new chapter” in its broadcasting journey.
According to a statement signed by the MD/Editor-in-Chief, Sulaiman Aledeh, EBS Tonight is designed to deliver in-depth and dynamic coverage of key national and international stories. The programme will feature live interviews with high-profile guests from around the world, offering viewers a platform for deeper analysis and a diversity of perspectives on critical issues.
Initially set to run for one hour, EBS Tonight is expected to expand into a two-hour uninterrupted news talk format in the near future.
The move to retire EBS Comprehensive News comes after decades of service, reflecting the broadcaster’s desire to align with changing viewer preferences and the fast-evolving media landscape.
“We believe it is time to embrace a more engaging and forward-thinking approach to journalism-one that not only informs but also connects with our audience in more meaningful ways,” Aledeh said.
EBS expressed gratitude to its loyal viewers, especially its alumni in Nigeria and the Diaspora, for their continued support. Special appreciation was extended to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, described as the station’s number one fan and brand ambassador, for his belief in EBS’s vision and commitment to helping the station compete at the highest level in the media industry.
