A professed islamic cleric, AbdulRahman Bello, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly murdering a final-year student, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, for ritual purposes.
Newsonspot gathered that on February 10, 2025, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, vanished while attending a naming ceremony in Ilorin. After receiving a call from a friend she met on Facebook, she abruptly left the event.
Her worried family and friends launched a search, but to no avail. Her parents reported her disappearance to the Oja Oba Police Station, prompting an investigation. The police tracked her last call to a suspect in the Ofa Garage area.
Initially, the suspect denied involvement but later confessed that Hafsoh died from an asthma attack at his residence. However, a gruesome discovery revealed her dismembered body hidden in a bowl, along with dismemberment tools.
The suspect, said to be the son of a prominent cleric, is in custody at the Kwara State Police Headquarters.
However, forensic findings, along with a table stocked with tools for dismembering bodies, suggest this may not have been his first crime.
Confirming the incident, Kwara State Police PRO, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the case as “gruesome” and assured that a full investigation is underway.
“On 11/02/2025 at about 18:00 hours, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division Oja-Oba by her father, Mr. Ibrahim A. Lawal. Immediately, police detectives swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect. The case was transferred yesterday (Friday) to the SCID for further investigations. The suspect remains in police custody as authorities continue their investigation into possible previous victims.
