Celestial Church of Christ nationwide especially, the Eagle Parish, Ogun State have been thrown into sudden mourning as Parish Prophet, Yomi Adetula was gruesomely gunned down by unknown Gunmen who stormed the church premises while service was on.
Newsonspot gathered that sources said the suspected assassins arrived the church while the prophet was preaching, pointed a long double barrelled gun at him and fired several shots. The prophet who doubles as the Director, Anti-Arms Smuggling of the Social Orientation and Safety (So-Safe) Corps in Ogun State, reportedly succumbed to the firepower, hit the floor still holding on to his microphone as he didn’t die immediately.
In the meantime, parishioners scampered at different directions to safety while the intrepid killers took time, brought out hammers from their bag and split open his skull to certify that he was dead; fueling speculation that they were hired assassins.
Police public relations officer CSP Omotola Odutola Confirmed the incident adding that a manhunt for the killers had begun while the remains of the prophet had been deposited in the morgue.
She said, “A prophet from the Celestial Church of Christ’s Eagle parish was shot by unidentified gunmen who opened fire during an active church service and then escaped. On January 19, 2025, around 10:30 AM, the divisional police officer of Idiroko received a report that someone had been killed at a Celestial Church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and discovered one Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old man, lying face up in a pool of blood that stained his white celestial garment.
”Upon closer inspection, his body was found to be riddled with bullets, and his head was severely damaged with an axe to confirm that he was indeed dead.”
During the police investigation, it was revealed that three men entered the church, brandished a long double-barreled gun, aimed at their target, and fired a shot that caused chaos, and the assailant escaped. Through the police’s efforts, the body was transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro. There is no arrest made yet, but the police are actively working to apprehend the fleeing suspects who escaped from the church toward the border area.
Normalcy has been restored in the area, and potential clues are expected to emerge in the coming days as investigations into this tragic incident are underway.”
