Renowned Nigerian music icon Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has been laid to rest in Lagos.
Newsonspot reports that the legendary artiste passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72.
Recall that Newsonspot reported news of Onwenu’s death after the singer collapsed at an event honouring the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Stella Okoli, before being rushed to Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, where she was pronounced dead.
Onwenu’s funeral service took place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, attended by close family, friends, and notable dignitaries.
The atmosphere was filled with deep emotion as mourners reminisced about Onwenu’s contributions to the entertainment industry and her impact on Nigerian culture.
Following the church service, a private burial was held at Ebony vault in Ikoyi.
Among the notable figures present at the ceremony was Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, who paid his last respects to the late music icon.
She is survived by her husband and two sons.
