President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adeola Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS).
President Tinubu also appointed Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
The previous Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, tendered his resignation after his counterpart in the NIA, Ahmed Abubakar, resigned from his appointment.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced the development in a statement on Monday, August 26, 2024.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed is the new Director-General of the NIA. Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is the new Director-General of the DSS.” the statement read in part.
The President thanked the outgoing DGs and urged the new security chiefs to work together to improve the country’s security situation.
The statement added, “President Tinubu expects that the new security chiefs will work assiduously to reposition the two intelligence agencies for better results and charges them to bring their experience to bear in tackling the security challenges bedeviling the country through enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and in surgical alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The President thanks the outgoing Directors-General of the two pivotal intelligence agencies for their services to the nation while wishing them success in their future endeavours.”
Recall that Rufai and Bichi were appointed to lead the agencies in 2018 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Rufai resigned as NIA DG six years after assuming the agency’s leadership.
