A tragic incident occurred in Nnewi, Anambra State, where a pastor of a pentecostal church, Pastor Prosper Obum Igboke, ended his life by jumping from a two-storey building.
The reason for his suicide was reportedly the rejection of his marriage proposal by his girlfriend, whom he had sponsored through the university.
According to a relative of the deceased, who preferred to remain anonymous, the pastor was 30 years old and had hoped to marry his girlfriend after her graduation.
However, she turned him down and broke his heart. The relative expressed shock that a man of his age and status could resort to such a drastic action.
The deceased was a native of Leru autonomous community of Umunneochi LGA in Abia State, where the tradition forbids suicide.
As a result, he was buried in a forest for committing an abomination. The burial took place on Friday, according to the source.
When contacted for comment. the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident was not brought before the police command.
“There is no information like that before me, and I want to also thank you for the privileged information. I will escalate this to the police manager within the area for necessary action, please,” Ikenga added.
