The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has announced that Professor Dipo Fasina, the former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared missing recently, was found in Turkey.
The commission stated via its verified Twitter handle today that Dipo went missing at Istanbul Airport while connecting flights back home.
The 76-year-old academic was travelling to Algeria on July 1 but wasn’t found where he was supposed to connect flights in the capital of Turkey.

NIDCOM’s statement partly read, “The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission in Turkey, has successfully located Prof Fasina, who went missing for a few days at Istanbul Airport while connecting on a flight back home.
“Mr. Fasina, 76, was traveling to Algeria when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey.
“A big thanks to the Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey who immediately sent officials to the Airport to physically locate him in the very busy and huge Istanbul Airport.”
Popularly known as Jingo, Fasina lead ASUU as president between 2000 and 2004. He is said to be the convener of the Centre for Popular Education (CEPED), a non-governmental organisation advocating quality education in Nigeria.
As a philosophy scholar, he was a delight to many students in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he taught for more than 30 years. One of his former students is Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, a renowned human rights lawyer.
