Fierce looking operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the hours of Tuesday locked the entrance of the Awolowo Ikoyi office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and prevented its personnel from accessing their office.
The cause of such action from a sister and critical agency could not be immediately ascertained but an insider source said it may not be unconnected with the lingering ownership tussle of the property presently being occupied by EFCC.
As of the time of this report, all EFCC officials at the Awolowo Road, Ikoyi office were spotted loitering around as they could not gain access to their offices.
“They even placed an armoured tank just to scare us away,” said one EFCC official.
“Those already inside their offices were forced out.”
Policemen guarding the EFCC Complex were told to ‘stand down’ or else, face the consequences.
Another official said some of the policemen at the gate were disarmed.
He said: “The way they stormed out office, I have never seen anything like that. The type of guns with them is out of this world. You dare not challenge them. They didn’t listen to anybody.
“There was pandemonium everywhere. They just told us not to enter the place. Those inside were told to leave immediately. Policemen guarding our office were helpless. They couldn’t do anything.”
There was traffic jam on Awolowo Road, affecting Norman Williams Street and other roads close to the ‘theatre of war’.
