Manchester United have terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by mutual consent following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
The club had been determining how to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo following his tell-all interview, where he criticised the club and his manager Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo is currently with Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar and is set to captain them in their opening Group H game against Ghana on Thursday.
He had has just over seven months remaining on his £500,000-a-week contract with Manchester United, and his departure leaves him free to sign for another club when the transfer window opens in January.

In a statement on Tuesday, the club said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”
Ronaldo also issued a statement, saying:
“Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.
“It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge.
“I wish Man Utd all the best.”
