Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reacted after eight-year-old athlete Adeela Adedeji, called him out in public.
The young athlete was not happy with the governor for ignoring her win at the African Gymnastics Clubs Championships.
The 8-year-old badminton athlete had represented Kwara state at the competition in Pretoria, South Africa, where she won a silver medal.
In a viral video, Adedeji apologized to the state government for not winning a gold medal while also expressing her disappointment at the government for ignoring her despite her win.
In her words “First of all, I’d like to apologise to my state government in Kwara for winning a silver medal. Stephanie’s government congratulated her, but my government did not congratulate me.”
Reacting to this, Kwara state governor released an official statement which was signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, congratulating Adeela Adedeji and her colleague, Feranmi Adekunle Aguda.
While Feranmi won four gold medals and one bronze for Nigeria at a badminton tournament in Cameroon, eight-year-old Adeela won a silver medal at the Africa Gymnastics Clubs Championships in Pretoria, South Africa. The two superstars are from Kwara State.
Feranmi was sponsored to the tournament by the Governor.
The statement read “All of us in Kwara are proud of Feranmi and of the little Adeela for the honour they have brought to the state.
“They are our superstars! We celebrate them and certainly look forward to seeing them always reaching for the stars and breaking all the glass ceilings in the future,” the Governor said in a statement in honour of the little girl.
“I personally look forward to hosting them as a mark of respect for their excellence, hard work and focus, and to encourage others to dream big in every good thing they venture into, especially their academics and other vocations.”
