Newsonspot.com.ng reports that at last, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has reacted to the sex scandal rocking it’s Managing Director, Mr. Adam Nuru and a staff Moyo Thomas.
It is understood that the bank has bowed to the public pressure and has launched an investigation into the alleged sexual misconduct involving its Managing Director, Adam Nuru who allegedly fathered two children with a staff.
Newsonspot.com.ng reports that the Board of First City Monument Bank, on Saturday, says it is investigating its Managing Director, Mr Adam Nuru, over allegations of unethical conduct involving a former employee, Ms Moyo Thomas.
The bank made this known in a statement released on Saturday titled, ‘Official Statement – Media Stories Regarding Our Managing Director’.
The said staff, identified as Moyo Thomas, is said to be the wife of another banker, Tunde Thomas, who developed health problems after learning of the illicit affair, which eventually deteriorated and led to his death a few weeks ago.
A group, Justice For Tunde Thomas, which blew the case open, is currently collecting signatures with which to launch a protest to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with a demand that the bank boss be sacked from his job for what is seen as unacceptable in the industry.
The group claimed that the shocking news of the affair made the deceased develop stroke, after the wife eloped to the US with the two children, whom he had nurtured as his, from where she also informed him that he was not their father.
After the relocation of his wife to the US where she was said to have sought and obtained asylum status, over domestic violence, Tunde was said to have moved on with his life, by marrying another woman, who became pregnant for him, only for death to come knocking through heart attack, apparently induced by the thought of the previous incident, before he could seal the marriage in a traditional way.
Over 1,200 people were said to have already signed the petition to get the bank chief sanctioned.
Thomas was said to have died of depression on December 16, 2020.
The petitioners, also called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sack Nuru, while demanding a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elite (Adam Nuru) against the underprivileged in the society,” the petition, which has already garnered over 1200 signatures, reads.
“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria, as the apex regulator, and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry.”
Following the outcry by Nigerians, the bank said it had begun its own investigation to get to the root of the matter.
In a statement on Friday, FCMB Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Diran Olojo, said the bank was aware of the allegations making the rounds against its MD and was already taking action, adding that its board of directors had already commenced a review into the matter, adding that its findings would be disclosed in due course.
The statement, read: “We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director, Adam Nuru, a former employee Ms Moyo Thomas and her deceased ex-husband, Mr Tunde Thomas,” the statement read.
“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct, require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of these code of conduct ethics. This will be done immediately,” the bank said.
“We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved.
Our Board of Directors are reviewing all aspects of this report and once they are done with their review, we will revert to you.”
