A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, has said he was instructed not to talk to the media on his invitation by the police over his recent comments on some national issues.
Last week, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abuja invited Mailafia for questioning but he did not confirm if he honoured it or did not.
Speaking with our reporter on phone on Monday, he said: “Honestly speaking, you know I am a colleague of yours and also an economist. I am under instructions not to talk. The authorities as well as my lawyer said I should not talk for now. I am sure the time will come when we shall get to talk very well.”
In the letter of invitation to the banker sighted by The Nation last week in Abuja and signed by Umar Mamman Sanda, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) For Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force CID, Abuja, Mailafia was directed to report to the police on Monday.
The invitation, the police said, was on a case they were investigating in which Mailafia’s name featured.
