American fashion designer and former actress, Mary-Kate Olsen, has officially filed for divorce from husband Olivier Sarkozy after five years of marriage.
The Row designer, who has been attempting to divorce Sarkosy for several weeks, was finally able to after New York courts began allowing lawsuits and divorces to be filed online, according to Harpers Bazaar.
Weeks ago, she requested for an emergency order to divorce the 50-year-old French banker but was unable to file it because courts were not accepting non-emergency filings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The emergency filing was to serve as the only way that Olsen can assure her belongings at their house won’t be discarded after Olivier terminated their lease without her knowledge.
A source told E! News: “It’s gotten very ugly between them,” the insider reveals of Mary-Kate and Olivier’s current dynamic. It’s become a “heated divorce,” the source adds. “She’s done with constant drama.”
The former child star, 33, and her twin Ashley Olsen are worth an estimated $250million (£205million) each but her fortune is “protected” now she’s split from her husband, it’s claimed.
Another source disclosed that Mary-Kate has an ‘ironclad prenup’ in place and the prenuptial agreement ensures that ‘her business interests and fortune are protected’
‘Her business interests and fortune are protected’ said the insider in reference to Olsen’s successful The Row line and her substantial net worth.
Olsen is reportedly spending some time with her twin sister and co-designer, Ashley Olsen after moving out from the couple’s Big Apple home.
Mary-Kate and Oliver, who both started dating in 2012, got married in 2015 in an intimate wedding ceremony. They have no children together, but Sarkozy has two from his previous marriage.
