The controversy surrounding the ‘detained’ Susan Okpe still subsist and different avenues are being explored to find an end to the saga.
On Tuesday (12th May, 2020) a call was put through to one of Susan Okpe’s brother (Dr. Felix Lawani), her immediate older brother, a veterinary doctor, who though corroborated most of what Susan Okpe has been saying in all her video posts, also made some salient points too.
He said the two Covid19 tests Mrs. Okpe did in both Makurdi and Abuja came back positive but because she is asymptomatic, (with no visible signs of the virus), she has been insisting that she is not positive, therefore, the results couldn’t have been hers.
The family has been talking to her to comply with the government/WHO/NCDC directives and do the last test but she has been adamant, they have even sent different emissaries to talk with her to rescind her decision, but all these to no avail too.
Dr. Lawani said,
“All the family want now is that everybody that truly loves Susan Okpe and wants to see her freed should pls advice her to humble herself & comply to the laid down WHO and NCDC directives concerning this Covid19 virus rather than helping her to hype the situation & make her feel like a victim…”
To be able to balance our report, we spoke with Susan Okpe herself today (13th May, 2020) to hear from her directly and she said among other things that…
Today is 51 days that I have been held against my will, I have neither stepped out nor seen the sun. I have never taken even paracetamol all these while yet the government claimed that I am Covid19 positive, how possible is that?
She said that this is not just about her anymore, that the whole world is watching to see how the matter will play out.
She also said she is tired of talking to anyone, that her lawyers are already on the case but if the government thinks they can intimidate her to do their bidding, that they are in for a big surprise.
Can this be called a case of stalemate? Only time will tell…
