England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English footballer in 25 years to claim the prestigious individual award.
Newsonspot reports that the 33-year-old was announced as the winner at a ceremony held at the London Palladium in the United Kingdom, beating Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal to the honour.
Kane’s victory ends England’s long wait for another Ballon d’Or winner since Michael Owen received the award in 2001. He joins a distinguished list of English footballers who have won the prize, including Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton and Kevin Keegan.
The Bayern Munich forward earned the award following an outstanding campaign in which he reportedly scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country.
His goals helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles, while England finished third at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after receiving the award, an emotional Kane expressed gratitude to the organisers and everyone who voted for him.
“Wow, I’m almost speechless,” he said, describing the occasion as particularly special because the ceremony took place in London.
He also thanked his teammates, former club Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and the England national team for their contributions to career.
Kane said his journey should inspire young people who dream of achieving success, noting that his career did not follow a straightforward path.
He recalled how loan spells and years of hard work helped him develop into one of football’s most prolific strikers.
FROM ARSENAL REJECTION TO FOOTBALL GREATNESS
Born Harry Edward Kane on July 28, 1993, in Walthamstow, London, the England captain’s journey to the top began with disappointment.
Kane joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of eight but was released after reportedly being considered insufficiently athletic. He subsequently returned to grassroots football before Tottenham Hotspur signed him in 2004.
However, he had to prove himself before earning a regular place in Tottenham’s first team.
Between 2011 and 2013, Kane went on loan to Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City, gaining valuable experience and developing his goal-scoring abilities.
His breakthrough came during the 2014-2015 season under manager Mauricio Pochettino, when he scored 31 goals in all competitions and won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
He also made an immediate impression on the international stage, scoring just 79 seconds into his England debut against Lithuania in March 2015.
From there, Kane established himself as one of the world’s leading forwards.
He became Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading scorer with 280 goals, overtaking Jimmy Greaves in 2023. He also became England’s all-time leading scorer, with 91 goals in 125 appearances as of October 2026.
In the Premier League, Kane scored 213 goals in 317 appearances, placing him among the competition’s most prolific players.
His individual honours include three Premier League Golden Boot awards in 2016, 2017 and 2021, as well as the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he scored six goals.
By February 2026, Kane had passed the 500-goal mark in his senior career.
Despite his remarkable individual achievements, his nine-season spell at Tottenham ended without a major trophy.
BAYERN MUNICH MOVE CHANGED EVERYTHING
Kane’s career took a new direction on August 12, 2023, when Bayern Munich signed him from Tottenham in a deal reportedly worth €100 million.
The transfer made him the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history at the time and Tottenham’s record sale.
Kane quickly justified Bayern’s investment, scoring 44 goals in all competitions during his debut season and setting a new Bundesliga record for goals by a player in his first season in the competition, with 36 league goals.
He followed that performance with another prolific campaign in 2024-2025, scoring 41 goals and finally ending his long wait for a major team trophy by winning the Bundesliga title.
Bayern retained the league title in 2025-2026, while Kane continued to deliver impressive performances in European competition.
He also reached the milestone of 50 UEFA Champions League goals in March 2026, doing so in just 66 appearances.
His achievements at Bayern have strengthened his reputation as one of the most consistent and productive strikers of his generation.
INSIDE KANE’S BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL EMPIRE
Beyond football, Kane has built a growing business portfolio through companies, commercial partnerships and investments.
Estimates of his wealth vary considerably, with some reports placing his net worth at approximately $140 million, while other estimates focus primarily on his football earnings.
His Bayern Munich salary and accumulated career earnings represent a significant part of his wealth, while endorsement agreements and business investments provide additional income.
In August 2023, Kane ended his long-standing partnership with Nike and joined Skechers as the footwear brand’s first football ambassador. The partnership included the launch of his SKX 01 signature football boots.
Kane’s commercial interests are managed through business entities associated with his name and image rights, including HK28 Ltd and The Harry Kane Company.
His reported investment interests include Reflo, a sustainable sportswear brand; Urban Legend, a doughnut business backed alongside his wife; STATSports, a sports performance technology company; and Seat Unique, a hospitality ticketing platform.
He also has property interests through Edward James Investments Ltd, with holdings reported in London and Hertfordshire.
Kane’s business activities demonstrate how modern footballers can build financial security beyond their playing careers by combining sporting success with commercial opportunities and investments.
FAMILY LIFE AND THE JOURNEY BEHIND THE SUCCESS
Away from football, Kane is married to his childhood sweetheart, Katie Goodland. The couple married in June 2019 and have four children.
Their relationship began when they were young, having attended Larkswood Primary School in Chingford, East London.
For Kane, the Ballon d’Or represents the culmination of years of determination, persistence and personal growth.
From being released by Arsenal as a child to becoming Tottenham’s leading scorer, moving to Bayern Munich and finally winning football’s most prestigious individual award, his career has been defined by his ability to overcome setbacks.
His latest achievement places him among the game’s most celebrated players and provides a remarkable ending to a journey that began far from the spotlight.
A NIGHT OF DRAMA IN LONDON
Kane’s historic triumph was preceded by confusion in the hours leading up to the ceremony.
The Ballon d’Or website reportedly published three separate articles naming Kane, Yamal and Mbappe as the winner of the 2026 men’s award, creating uncertainty before the official announcement.
The ceremony was also delayed by 45 minutes because of traffic in London, with proceedings eventually scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m.
Despite the pre-event confusion, the night ultimately belonged to Kane, whose record-breaking performances secured his place at the top of world football.
His victory ends England’s 25-year wait for the men’s Ballon d’Or and marks another milestone in the career of a striker who has repeatedly turned setbacks into success.
