Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, wife of the President of Nigeria, has posited that child labour imminence is a serious trouble to child development in the country.
She thus called for further sweats to insure that the menace is canceled or reduced to the barest minimum.
Mrs Buhari, who said this at the National Children Conference to commemorate 2022 World Day Against Child Labour, added that, “Child labour remains a major trouble to child development in Nigeria in malignancy of legislative measures taken by the government at colorful situations to check it.
She further said, “In its sweats to reduce prevalence of child labour, the government is enforcing roundly the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme which is the major plank of the battle to fight child labour, increase children academy registration and help children dropping out of seminaries.
“Worthy of note too is the relinquishment of the Child Rights Act and other defensive laws by governments at the state position as also playing a critical part in militating against child labour.
“I’ve to admit that there are a lot of conditioning in this sector which have led to considerable differences in the area of mindfulness creation among parents, children and indeed seminaries.“My unborn Assured as you know has done veritably much in this regard especially through advocacy. I call on us all to do more because we’re getting further victims and also the circumstances leading to child labour still subsist. The eradication of child labour still requires a systemic approach and effective programs to strengthen social protection systems, education, and decent work openings for parents and caregivers to address the conditions that drive child labour.
“While moment’s event stands primarily to celebrate these children, it also provides the avenue to call for increased investment in social protection systems and schemes to establish solid social protection bottoms and cover children from child labour.“It’s in this regard that the government has put in place social security programmes as stressed by earlier speakers to inhibit all tones of child labour in addition to diversifying the frugality through agrarian revolution and strengthening the social security system to reverse poverty as a prepping factor in this light.
“All these enterprise of the Federal Government, I believe, sets us on the path to eradicating the imminence of child labour in our communities and on the path to achieving sustainable development thing. I’ve heeded to the colorful speakers then moment and how they’re helping to change the narrative, I believe this multi sectoral approach will help in eradicating child Labour in Nigeria.”
