Anthony Madu, the young Nigerian boy whose ballet dance video went viral, said he will miss his family and his Nigerian ballet academy when he leaves for the United States in 2021.
The boy, who earned himself a scholarship with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, said the viral video has brought him a lot of opportunities.
In an interview with the BBC, the young boy said: “I feel very, very happy because the viral video has brought so many opportunities. Since then, I won a scholarship to go to the US in the year 2021.”
Anthony has already started online classes with the academy and he said the classes have been so amazing.
He said the classes have made him more active than he used to be.
Anthony said: “What I’m going to miss here is my parents and my siblings. And I’m also going to miss our academy because I used to come here every day.
“In my neighbourhood now, what has changed for me is that plenty people want to become my friends.”
The boy, who got emotional and shed tears, said he gets nervous when he thinks about being away from his family in 2021.
Recall that a Nigerian woman identified as Fade Ogunro gave hope to Anthony after watching his viral video.
In the video that has been watched million times, the boy could be seen making amazing lines in the rain on a very wet floor.
Anthony is one of the 24 students at the Leap of Dance Academy in Lagos state, an academy founded in 2017.
On Wednesday, June 24, Fade said she would sponsor the boy’s education until he finishes university.
Weeks later on Wednesday, July 8, the Nigerian shared a snapshot of the boy and another said that she pledged to sponsor in school.
She said that their smiles gave her great joy as she prayed that they fulfill their dreams in life.
