ANTI- OPEN GRAZING LAW: 3 Herders And 40 Cows Fall Victim, See What Amotekun Did To Them…

The issue of open grazing in the Southern part of Nigeria has been widely frowned at by literally all the governors in the region.

Recall that few days ago, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state had signed the controversial anti- open grazing bill into law, which prohibits any form of open grazing within his state.

In the wake of the anti- open grazing law, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, arrested three herders for flouting the law on Friday, 3rd September, while no fewer than 40 cows belonging to the herdsmen were seized: an action many southerners believe will serve as a lesson to other herders.

How The Herders Were Arrested

Credible reports said the herdsmen led their cows to farmlands in the Owode area of Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo state before they were arrested.

According to Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Amotekun’s commander, the herdsmen were arrested following distress calls received from farmers and residents of the community.

”The cows have been impounded, while three herders were apprehended and investigation is still ongoing,” the Corps’ Commander said.

Meanwhile, Adetunji also disclosed that the corps had kick- started a strategy to checkmate the movement of herders in the state.
