On April 29, a friend to Umoren named Umoh Uduak raised alarm on Twitter that the young lady went missing after honouring a job interview invite in the state.
Giving an update later, Uduak said she received a 1-second audio on WhatsApp which made her call her friend immediately, but said she heard Umoren screaming before the call abruptly ended, adding that the missing lady’s phone line has been switched off ever since.
Uduak’s cries for help attracted Nigerian Twitter community with many calling on the security agencies to find the victim. The hashtag, #FindHinyHumoren, was used to coordinate efforts to find her.
Many Concerned Nigerians deployed internet tools to see how they could track the missing woman’s location or uncover the identity and the location of the person she went out to meet.
Following this, identity of the person who invited Umoren for the interview was revealed as a young man named Uduak Frank Akpan from Nung Ikot Obi.
Much later, Uduak revealed that police bursted the said location, picked the suspected kidnapper’s father who seems be aware of his son’s criminal activities.

Before his arrest, Akpan, on Friday, took to his Facebook page to debunk the allegation without further proof of his innocence.
He also denied having met the young lady when picked up by the police but according to Uduak, the prime suspect has confessed to have raped and killed Umoren.
Also, it was gathered that Akpan took Umoren to his house and a fight ensued between them. In the process, he used an object to hit her in the head, which resulted in her death.
He was alleged to have hurriedly buried her in a shallow grave and run to another area (Oron) to hide.
Following the pressure mounted by Nigerians on social media, he could no longer stay at Oron and ran to Uruan.
Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Surv. Iniobong Ekpeyong was said to have met the suspect’s cousin and requested that the suspect be brought to him.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the Chairman who handed him over to the police.
In another update, a man who appears to a family relative said it appears that the suspect had killed other people in the past, as policemen are working to recover the bodies, including Umoren.
