Reigning Mrs World Caroline Jurie resigns…

Newsonspot.com.ng reports that the reigning Mrs World, Caroline Jurie, has resigned her title just weeks after being involved in a controversial incident at the Mrs Sri Lanka pageant in Colombo.

Jurie made headlines when she forcibly removed Mrs Sri Lanka’s crown from her head, declaring the winner was a divorcee and therefore not qualified to win.

Pushpika De Silva was about to receive the honour on Sunday, April 4, when Jurie stepped in and announced that De Silva had been disqualified.

“There is a rule that you have to be married and not divorced,” Jurie said.
“So, I am taking my first steps saying that the crown goes to the first runner up.”

Images that went viral online showed the moment she pulled the crown off De Silva’s head.

The Colombo Gazette reported that the crown was removed so forcibly that De Silva was injured and had to attend hospital.

De Silva filed a complaint with police and Jurie was arrested when she visited a police station to record her statement, but she was later released on bail.

Pageant organisers later clarified that De Silva was separated but not divorced, and gave her back her crown.

Mrs World confirmed on social media that she had resigned.

“Her voluntary resignation decision was made solely by Caroline herself,” the Mrs World organisation said.

Her title will be taken up by the runner-up of the 2020 Mrs World contest, Kate Schneider from Ireland.

Newsonspot.com.ng gathered that De Silva will now go on to compete in the Mrs World pageant.
